One of the simplest of storage ideas can be used in creative ways. Over-the-door shoe organizers are an inexpensive solution to messy closets, children's rooms and more.

Many families think about how to declutter on a weekly basis. All of the storage ideas below make use of one simple tool – a shoe organizer. Whether tidying up messy closets, kitchen pantries, children’s rooms, craft supplies, or garages, over the door shoe organizers with clear pockets offer creative ways to keep items in view. Clear pockets are a simple solution for how to declutter almost every room in the house.

Creative Ways and Places to Hang Organizers

Shoe organizers don’t have to hang over a door. Most versions come with grommet-reinforced holes that can hang on nails or hooks. Pocketed organizers can hang on the walls of messy closets, the walls of kitchen pantries and on metal cabinets and refrigerators using strong magnetic hooks. Pocket organizers can also be tied to a sturdy clothes hanger and hung on a closet rod. If an organizer is too long, scissors easily customize these versatile pocket storage ideas to the right length.

Garages are full of small gadgets, tools and garden supplies and garages usually have wall space for hanging pockets. Basketball inflation needles, squirt hose attachments and Allen Wrenches will all be in full view. A label maker can come in handy to label pockets, making it more likely that users will return items back in the appropriate pocket.

How to Declutter in Children’s Rooms

Small toys such as Match Box© cars, Barbie© dolls and Beanie Babies© are the perfect size to tuck in pockets. One shoe organizer on the back of the door and another one on the inside of the closet door makes use of two vertical storage options that are often overlooked in children’s rooms.

Socks, underwear, tights, shoes and other small “get dressed” items can be stored in the clear pockets. Using organizers on doors can declutter messy closets and help children be more independent. When everyday essentials are stored in the lower pockets in children’s rooms, kids can get clothes out by themselves.

Storage Ideas for Kitchen Pantries and Laundry Rooms

Clear-pocketed organizers can hang on the rarely used inside door of kitchen pantries or hang on walls inside kitchen pantries. Spices can be organized in alphabetical order or by color. Bars, small bags of chips, lunch sized cookie packs, crackers and other individually packaged snacks can be displayed in full view.

Shoe organizers can go on the back of the door into laundry rooms or hang on a wall. Stain sticks, laundry spot pens, scrub brushes and netted bags for washing delicate items all fit nicely in a pocket organizer. To hang items at eye level over appliances, scissors can be used to trim the excess for mounting on the wall behind a washer or dryer.

How to Declutter Messy Closets and Craft Supplies

Over the door shoe organizers can get shoes up and off the floor in messy closets. They're also great storage ideas for holding small items such as belts, gloves, knit hats and socks. Bathroom closets can get a makeover by placing small bathroom supplies in clear view pockets. Bottles of pain relievers, decongestants, and rubbing alcohol can be easily seen stored in a high level pocket (to child proof).

Crafters won’t have to hunt for a certain color of button, yarn, adhesive, paint color, etc. with craft supplies in full view stored in over the door shoe organizers. A clear pocketed system for holding craft supplies can be hung on the inside of a closet. Also organizers can be hung in a row across an entire wall in a craft room for an easy view of a large assortment of craft supplies.

Several years ago we bought a MatchBox car holder that hangs on a door similar to the shoe organizer (except it holds cars). My son used it for a year or so and slowly we added little things to it as he didn't use it so much. Now, it is a full time 'hold everything'.
It is the GO TO for such items as:
my fav pair of tweezers and nail clippers
little collar stays for husband's shirts
nail polish
hair clips that haven't been put away (we find them all over the house)
floss
handful of Q-tips
earplugs
paper clips
safety pins
handful of Band-aids

and more of the 'little' things we need that somehow make sense to have on the back of my bedroom door......
