The Importance of College Entrance Exams

Scores on college entrance exams can mean the difference between getting into college or not. As well, scores define whether or not students are admitted into particular colleges and the types of scholarships a student will be offered. Parents usually want to make sure teens have high SAT scores for applying to college especially when scores can gain access to scholarship funds. Many students find it helpful to answer practice questions so they’ll be familiar with the format of the SAT test beforehand.

The College Board Online SAT Prep Site

Along with being able to register for the SAT and being able to forward scores to colleges, students can also prepare to take the SAT on the College Board website. The actual company that designs and administers SAT college entrance exams offers free online SAT prep, including practice questions and a full-length sample test that is computer scored. The College Board site appears to have a lot to offer at no cost compared to costly study sites.

On the College Board website, students can also sign up to receive a test question of the day by e-mail for free, so teens can be reminded about preparing for the SAT on an ongoing basis. In addition, the “practice” section offers tips, a quiz that recommends study plans based on student answers and tutorials with practice questions that focus on building particular skills.

The College Board website offers a variety of services for students. After students have registered for and taken the actual SAT, this same site is the place to check scores, e-mail scores to schools where students are applying for college and even print the scored essay portion of the test.

If students need to improve on vocabulary, they can sign up for a “word of the day” e-mail from the Number 2 site as well as use a vocabulary tutorial. The Number 2 site seems to offer an abundance of tutorials and support in preparing for SAT college entrance exams.
